Lake Hope State Park

I did a few sketches of the forest outside our cabin while on vacation in Ohio with my family. The first one is the view from the porch, the second is the view from the sun room in the back, and the third is the view when you step off the porch.

There wasn't much to draw there except trees as you can see, but at least I got some practice. Trees are always fun.

Flash Backgrounds

The backgrounds I did for some of my flash projects. The second one is supposed to be a zoo but never got finished.

Batgirl

Obviously, I can't draw men

Supergirl sketches

Just messing around with her costume design, I like the new 52 design and was sort of inspired by it

I looooove markers

Tonal Layouts

I would have liked to spend more time on these, too many projects at the same time

My first ever lip synch! :D

Vehicle

This was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. But cars are probably one of the most difficult things I've ever drawn. This is my first time ever attempting to draw one right so I hope I succeeded somewhat.
I tried fixing those wheels so many times and they still don't look right. Other than that, I'm pretty satisfied with it.
I had originally wanted to do a steampunk style plane (I'm so glad I decided to scrap that), but decided to start from scratch and try to get all my perspective done right this time. Once again I used the grayscale, and then colour overlay.

Creature

Probably the hardest assignment, I went all over the place with this one. I used the same method of doing grayscale and then a colour overlay on top. It's usually simpler to paint this way but the thing I don't like about it is the gray-ish feel it gives the image.
Honestly I'm not entirely happy with how it turned out, but I guess for my first time doing this it's ok.

Head & Hands

Our third project in digital painting is head and hands. This one went through a lot of revisions.

Starting this was very difficult. I had the image in my head but could not get it on paper. My original expression was a sort of devious face. But that also changed several times. I started with a sketch on paper and then fixed up the anatomy quickly in photoshop, roughing in some colours along the way, trying to figure out the basic shading. At this point I still had almost no idea what I was doing.
After I got critiqued, I fixed up the anatomy some more and changed it to gray scale. The left hand is still nowhere to be seen because I had trouble with finding a good spot for it.
After I shaded everything, I started working on the cloth. I'm not too happy with how the bottom half of it turned out.
After all the shading was complete, I added colour. I eventually ended up with a sad expression, because I feel like that's a strong emotion to convey. However, I probably could have pushed it a bit more.
Overall, I enjoyed this project once I got into it, and figured out how the lighting worked.

Fish Progress

Our first assignment of the year, a fish.

First I roughed in a sketch, I chose a side view because I wasn't confident enough to try a more complex view, although I would have liked to. Then I roughed in base colours and tried to figure out where the shadows would be. The shadows were definitely the hardest part to figure out. That seems to be the point where I struggle a lot. I then started the scales and left the fins for last. I attempted to make them appear translucent, but might have gone a bit overboard.
I definitely wish I had more time to sort out the shadows and lighting.
